If you spend any time reading about health issues, chances are you have heard of body cleanse detox diets. Plugging these words into an internet search brings up thousands of results. The nutrition sections of bookstores are full of books on different detox diet which vary in method and intensity. Some of them simply recommend that you eat only fresh fruits and vegetables for a certain time period. Others are more drastic, focusing on a liquid diet and a salt-water flush.

It may be that you have already decided to do a full body cleanse, and are just searching for the right diet for you. However, if the whole idea of detoxing is new to you, you may wonder if there are any benefits at all. Chances are, there is some reason that you could afford to clean out your system. We all occasionally feel sluggish and weighed down by the things we put into our bodies. There are many reasons why a detox diet could be beneficial. Here are a few reasons people choose to try this type of diet.

Acne Problems

We’ve all heard the old legends, that soda, greasy foods, and chocolate cause acne. While it has been proven that none of these things in moderate amounts actually cause pimples, the idea behind the legend is definitely founded in truth. Your skin is affected by the foods you put into your body. If your diet generally consists of foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar, you are more likely to have issues with your skin. A detox diet can be a great way to clear out your system and transition into a better way of eating.

Drinking Problems

Anyone who has a serious physical addiction to alcohol probably needs to seek the help of a professional. However, there are lots of people who do not have a physical addiction, but still feel that their lifestyle includes too much alcohol consumption. There are many adverse effects to having a buildup of alcohol in your system. It can rob you of valuable energy and make you feel less alert. Your concentration suffers, and you have a general feeling of fatigue. Doing a cleanse can help get the alcohol out and get you feeling back to normal.

Vegetarian or Vegan Diets

Vegetarians are people who eat no meat at all. Vegans do not eat any animal products (no dairy or honey, even). Often, someone who has decides to make the transition to one of these diets will want to clean out their system first. A detox diet can help rid your body of all animal products.

Transitioning to Whole Foods

Becoming vegan or vegetarian may not seem realistic for you, but you can still make changes in your diet. Many of the foods we eat are processed, meaning that they contain chemical additives and preservatives. Our bodies are really not well equipped to deal with these chemicals and have a hard time breaking them down. For this reason, lots of people choose to base their diet around foods that remain as close to their natural state as possible. If you are trying to do this, you might want to begin with a detox diet to rid your body of chemicals.

These are a few of the reasons that you might try a body cleanse diet. You may want to check with your doctor first to make sure that your body can handle it at this time, but for almost any healthy individual, a body cleanse will improve the way you feel and help you begin on the road to a healthier you.
