For decades, data entry were plentiful and there were not enough people. Today, the economy has taken a bit of a temporary downturn and jobs are scarce. However, the demand for data entry jobs remains high among the young teenagers. From US government data, there were approximately 500,000 data entry jobs in 2006. These jobs were not only confined to the government but also to the private sector. Of these at least 2/3rd of the jobs were related directly to data entry and the remaining 1/3rd to word processing and typing.
The government usually has about 50-75,000 data entry job per year. However, these jobs are rapidly taken up. The rest of the jobs are in the private sector and large industries. Today, for every position of data entry there are roughly 3 applicants and this outlook is not going to be any better in the near future.
However, there has been an explosion of data entry jobs over the Internet. Almost every company has jobs advertised. What is not known is how many of these jobs are paid or not. And in many cases, it is impossible to know if the company is bona fide. While there are many legitimate companies offering data entry jobs over the Internet, the biggest difficulty is finding the honest one.
What’s The Future of Data entry?
Anyone who claims that the job market is great is not being honest. Almost every sector of the work industry has been affected by the recent recession and this also applies to data entry. Definitely, there has been a decline in the job market for date entry and typists. More people are unemployed than ever and there is an even larger pool of educated applicants for almost any job.
The governmental statistics indicate that date entry jobs will decline by at least 7% in 2007 ad 2008. There were close to 500,000 jobs in 2006. So one will see about 30-40,000 fewer jobs this year and may be even more next year. It all depends on the how the economy does. Many companies have already started to downsize and there is no hint that the job market is going to pick up any soon.
Today, many companies have started doing the data entry work themselves or hiring people to do it for lesser money and in many cases out sourcing the work to India or Mexico. But one point to be made is that no matter what, for those individuals with good technical skills, experience with the computer, and excellent accurate typing skills- jobs will still be easily available.
